Red notices have been issued through the INTERPOL on nearly 132 Sri Lankan fugitives who have fled the country after committing various crimes related to drug trafficking.

Senior Police Spokesman Ajith Rohana said investigations have found that most of the wanted criminals have sought refuge in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Addressing a media briefing, SDIG Ajith Rohana said that a special investigation is underway to bring down the wanted criminals.

The Police Narcotics Bureau, the Special Task Force, the Customs, and the Navy are conducting joint operations into drug smuggling being carried out on an international level, he said.

SDIG Rohana said that in addition, the police are also to take action against drug traffickers under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

He said action will be initiated in this regard to seize immovable and movable property earned through narcotic trade. (NewsWire)
