The shortage of fuel in Sri Lanka will continue until the 5th of April, Minister of Transportation Dilum Amunugama said today.

Minister Amunugama said the authorities can only request the public to work with patience during this period.

Stating that the country will not completely run out of fuel, the Minister said, however, there will be a shortage.

He revealed that the fuel tanker purchased under the Line of Credit from India will arrive in Sri Lanka only on the 5th of April 2022.

Long queues have continued to be reported in several fuel stations across the country over the past few weeks due to a shortage of fuel.

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has announced that diesel will not be provided today and tomorrow.

The CPC called on the public to refrain from standing in queue during this period to obtain diesel.

However, the CPC assured that the supply of petrol will continue as there are sufficient stocks.

Several protests were also reported from various areas in the country today, with the public demanding fuel.

Protests were held in front of the Nelum Pokuna Theatre in Colombo, Bandarawela, Hatton, among other areas in the country. (NewsWire)
