Several political parties have revealed that they are not part of the public protests being organized for the 3rd of April by several groups via social media.

Outrage by the public has led to the organizing of mass protests in several towns of the country to voice objection to the current Government.

The United National Party (UNP) led by Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) led by Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and the National Freedom Front (NFF) – led by ex-Minister Wimal Weerawansa have informed the public that they are not part of the organizers of the protests.

MP Wimal Weerawansa’s NFF has announced that it will not participate in the protests as the Samagi Jana Balawegaya leaders are involved in the protests.

Terming the protest as Sri Lanka’s Arab Spring version, MP Weerawansa said that the 11 constituent parties of the Government including the Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) will not support it.

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) led by MP Sajith Premadasa has announced that it was not part of the organizers but supports the protests.

SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said that his party is only coming out to support the social media groups that are organizing the protests.

Meanwhile, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has called on the public to be vigilant of various groups joining unorganized protests. (NewsWire)
