The BAR Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has condemned the violence that has been reported during the public protests that have been carried out in the country.

Issuing a statement, the BASL said some protests have led to violence with protesters targeting private property and causing destruction.

Pointing out that this is a criminal offence, the BASL said it unequivocally condemns such criminal acts.

The BAR Association further called on authorities to take action according to the law pertaining to incidents of violence during protests.

The Association added that however, action must be taken whilst safeguarding the rights of those who protest peacefully.

A few incidents of protesters engaging in a violent manner have been reported during the public protests that were held across the country over the last few days against the President and his Government. (NewsWire)
