The Sri Lanka Police has continued conducting raids islandwide on those selling fuel without authorized licences.

The Police said a total of 68 such individuals have been arrested, 8025 lt of petrol, 726 lt of diesel, and a stock of kerosene have been seized from the suspects.

The raids have been conducted after it was reported that several individuals have commenced illegal businesses by buying excess stocks of fuel and reselling them for higher prices elsewhere.

People have resorted to purchasing excess fuel in cans and barrels, and later reselling them at a higher price to the public.

The scam has resulted in affecting several other persons who stand in long queues to purchase fuel for their vehicles and daily activities.

Investigations have revealed that the shortage of fuel and constant power cuts have also contributed to individuals engaging in such scams.

The Police said as a result a raid was conducted yesterday to apprehend those engaged in the illegal fuel business.

They added that the islandwide raids will be continued to apprehend such individuals defrauding the public. (NewsWire)
