A tense situation erupted outside the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) headquarters between party members and their supporters.

A group of SLFP supporters surrounded the party headquarters as former President and Party Leader Maithripala Sirisena was leaving the premises.

A discussion between the SLFP members and supporters ended in a tense situation as the supporters confronted the party members on the future course of action.

The supporters called on the SLFP members not to betray their votes and to act in favour of the protesting public.

Meanwhile, SLFP General Secretary, MP Dayasiri Jayasekara said the independent group of SLFP MPs will boycott the discussion scheduled to be held with the President today.

The independent parliamentarians of the 11 constituent parties have also decided to boycott the discussion to be held with the President.

MP Dayasiri Jayasekara further said that Shantha Bandara was removed from all positions of the SLFP.

The decision has been taken after SLFP MP Shantha Bandara was appointed as State Agriculture Minister yesterday. (NewsWire)
