Former Minister of Public Security Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara has refuted reports claiming that he was utilizing the luxury vehicle of the 2019 Easter attacks ring leader Zahran Hashim.

Denying the allegations, MP Sarath Weerasekara clarified that he had not used any such vehicle.

He responded to the claims after opposition MP Harin Fernando had pointed out the matter in Parliament today.

Addressing the Parliament, MP Fernando read out a Tweet by a senior journalist stating that reports claim Zahran Hashim’s Toyota Land Cruiser V8 is currently being used by MP Sarath Weerasekara.

MP Harin Fernando repeated in Parliament the journalist’s query on whether a court production can be used by a politician.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harin Fernando thereafter directed the questions to MP Sarath Weerasekara who was in Parliament today.

Responding to MP Fernando, former Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekara said he had inquired from the Ministry Secretary in this regard, as soon as he was made aware of the matter.

He said the Ministry Secretary had informed him that the vehicle had been handed over as state property to the Sri Lanka Police, and the Police Department had handed over the vehicle to the Police Special Task Force (STF).

MP Sarath Weerasekara said the vehicle has not been handed over to him, but instead, it has been included among the service vehicles provided to the Police STF.

The MP further clarified that he has not used the said luxury vehicle at any given time. (NewsWire)
