Public protests are underway in several areas across Sri Lanka today as well.

The Galle – Matara main road has been blocked near the Galle bus stand due to a protest demanding fuel.

A protest is also underway near Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s private residence, Carlton House, in Tangalle.

Earlier today, the Galle Road was completely blocked at the Balapitiya Town also due to a protest demanding fuel.

The peaceful public protest at the Galle Face Green in Colombo is also continuing for the 11th consecutive day today.

During protests yesterday, the Police used ‘minimum force’ by opening fire to disperse protesters in Rambukkana, in which one person was killed and many others were seriously injured.

The Police used tear gas yesterday to disperse a group of protesters in Matara Town, while 08 persons had been arrested.

The public has been engaging in peaceful protests over the last few days demanding fuel and other essential items.

A shortage of fuel, gas, food, and medicines has been reported in Sri Lanka due to the worsening economic crisis in the country.

Some protesters have been calling for the President and his Government to resign, over the failed economy of Sri Lanka. (NewsWire)
