Qatar releases 20 Sri Lankans in prison in view of Ramadan

Twenty (20) Sri Lankans who were imprisoned in Qatar for various offences have been released in view of the Ramadan festival.

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) said the decision has been taken by the Government of Qatar.

The 20 Sri Lankans that have been released are those who have been imprisoned for engaging in various illegal activities while serving in the country.

The SLBFE further said in addition to imprisonment, they have also been released from financial penalties to be paid by the courts in the country.

The Bureau commended the Government of Qatar for taking this measure in view of the Ramadan festival. (NewsWire)
