Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has called for the No-Confidence Motion against the Government to be taken up after the Finance Minister briefs the Parliament on the discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The United National Party (UNP) leader revealed his suggestion while addressing the Parliament today.

MP Ranil Wickremesinghe further said that until then, it was pointless discussing the No-Confidence Motion.

The former Prime Minister also discussed in Parliament the current financial situation of Sri Lanka.

He said that information has been received that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will not be able to provide a Rapid Financial Instrument (RFI) as a bridging facility until the Government presents a viable fiscal plan.

MP Wickremesinghe once again called upon the President and Prime Minister to present to the Parliament and the public their proposed plan of action to address the crisis.

He further said that a Government with the support of only 113 MPs will be unable to solve the crisis.

Drawing comparisons to 1977, the former PM said that a Government commanding the confidence of a minimum of 175 MPs was required to solve this issue.

Stating that the Parliament cannot operate in opposition to each other based on the media trends, MP Wickremesinghe claimed that working together was the only way the crisis can be resolved.

MP Ranil Wickremesinghe added that unless the ground reality was understood by the MPs they would also be chased out of Parliament. (NewsWire)
