A tense situation was reported in front of Temple Trees in Colombo last night as the Police attempted to obstruct a group of people who were engaged in a protest against the Prime Minister and the Government.

The Police had lined a few buses and trucks on the pavement along the Temple Trees preventing the protesters from approaching the entrance.

The protesters claimed that a truck had reversed onto a few people who were seated on the pavement and called for the Police officer who had issued the order to the Police to appear in person and brief the protesters.

The Police had acted in this manner after the Colombo Additional Magistrate had earlier rejected a request by the Colpetty Police to remove the protesters in front of Temple Trees.

Following the attempts of the Police last night, the public established a protest site named “MainaGoGama” in front of the Temple Trees in Colombo.

A group is engaged in a peaceful protest at the location calling for the Prime Minister and the Government to resign. (NewsWire)
