Large-scale strike action tomorrow

A large-scale strike action is to be staged against the government tomorrow (28), with the participation of several Trade Unions. 

The Trade Unions of the State, Semi-Government, Public, and Plantation sectors have announced a joint strike action against the government.

Over 100 trade unions are set to participate in the strike action demanding the government step down.

The Joint Committee of Government Executive Officers has announced a sick leave campaign to stage a strike against the government.

The strike action will be held in front of the Viharamahadevi Park in Colombo tomorrow morning. 

The Joint Committee of Government Executive Officers says it will launch a strike to urge the government to respect the opinion of the public and to demand the government step down.

The All Ceylon United Teachers Union (ACUTU) has also announced its decision to stage a one-day strike against the government tomorrow (28).

Chairperson of the Union Venerable Yalwela Panyasekara Thero told reporters today that the strike will be conducted with the participation of 240,000 teachers and 16,000 principals.

He said the strike will be staged to demand the government end nepotism, heed the demands of the public, and step down and form a government that is suitable for the public. (NewsWire)
