President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has extended an invitation to all political parties in the government to discuss the establishment of an all-party government.

The invitation has been extended via a letter to all the party leaders in the government, including the ruling party MPs who recently announced their decision to remain independent in Parliament.

In his letter, the President has agreed in principle to form an all-party government with the participation of all political parties represented in Parliament.

He further said that the all-party government will be formed following the resignation of the current Prime Minister and the Cabinet.

Thereby, he has called for a meeting on Friday (29) to discuss the structure of the new government and has invited all the party leaders in the government to attend the discussion.

The invitation has been extended after taking into consideration the requests made by the Maha Sangha and the Archbishop of Colombo to establish an all-party interim government to address the current social and political issues in Sri Lanka.

The President said the discussion on Friday will focus mainly on the structure of the all-party government, the tenure of the interim government, and the representatives to be appointed in the interim government.

As the first step, a discussion will be held on Friday at the President’s House at 10.30 am with the participation of the leaders of political parties representing the government in Parliament, those who are representing the government after entering the Parliament following the 2020 General Elections, and the ruling party MPs who have decided to remain independent in Parliament.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa called on all leaders of the political parties representing the government to participate in the discussion and to ensure to submit their proposals and suggestions on the formation of an all-party interim government without fail. (NewsWire)
