The United National Party (UNP) has clarified that it does not oppose the No-Confidence Motion (NCM) against the Government.

Assistant Leader of the UNP Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said the party has requested that the Party Leaders agree on the next steps prior to passing an NCM.

He pointed out that after the Prime Minister and Cabinet have been sacked following an NCM, the powers of the Cabinet will transfer to the President.

Therefore, Parliament must be in agreement on a post-NCM plan to ensure stability in the country, the former minister said.

Akila Viraj Kariyawasam further said, “the NCM cannot see the removal of one Pohottuwa Prime Minister only to be replaced by another Pohottuwa MP.” (NewsWire)
