Opposition MP Harsha de Silva has laid down the Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s (SJB) condition to form an all-party interim government.

Dr. Harsha de Silva said that the SJB will establish an interim government with a 113+ majority if President Gotabaya Rajapaksa steps down.

“As discussed we will establish an interim all-party government w 113+ if @GotabayaR calls it a day. That is what the country is asking for. #GoHomeGota2022 #aragalaya is about that,” he revealed.

The SJB MP further pointed out that the President and his government have lost their moral legitimacy to stay on any longer.

“Let’s find a way out,” MP Harsha de Silva added.

He made the observation via a message on Twitter in response to an earlier statement of former Minister Namal Rajapaksa.

MP Namal Rajapaksa had claimed that in order to form an interim all-party government all main parties have to come together and be represented to be able to form the government for the stipulated period.

He further said having two factions of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) come together to form the government again will only extend the already existing coalition.

The comments come at a time when the government and the opposition are at a deadlock to form an all-party interim government to resolve the current national crisis in Sri Lanka.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had extended an invitation to all political parties in Parliament to form an all-party government under the existing President and Prime Minister.

However, the opposition parties have declined, calling for the President and the Prime Minister to step down from their portfolios, stating that only then will they agree to establish an all-party interim government. (NewsWire)
