A tense situation was reported today at the anti-government protest site that has been erected in front of the Prime Minister’s official residence, Temple Trees in Colombo.

The incident occurred after the Police had attempted to remove several posters and banners that had been displayed on a bus that had been parked over the last few days on the pavement blocking the entrance to the Temple Trees.

A tense situation had erupted between the Police and the protesters, while one protester had been injured and had been transported to a hospital in an ambulance.

The Police had forcefully parked several buses and trucks on the pavement obstructing access to the Temple Trees, as the public had set up a protest site, calling for the resignation of the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, a group of lawyers has lodged a complaint with the Colpetty Police about the buses that have been parked on the pavements blocking the stretch of pavement along with the Temple Trees and the loud chanting of Pirith, claiming it was causing severe inconvenience to the public.

The Red Cross institution has also instructed an individual who was engaged in a fast unto death at the protest site to call off the fast due to the deterioration of his health. (NewsWire)
