The Inter-University Bhikku Federation (IUBF) staged a protest in front of the President’s Official residence in Fort today.
The IUBF had commenced a protest march from the Viharamahadeci Park and had headed towards the Galle Face Green.
As the roads were blocked by Police barricades near the World Trade Centre in Colombo, the protesters had removed the barricades and moved forward.
They had also removed the Police barricades in front of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and had engaged in a protest in front of the President’s Official residence for a short while.
The IUBF protesters had thereafter headed towards the Galle Face Green to join the ongoing public protest against the President and the government.
This is the first time a protest has been staged in front of the President’s Official residence, as the Police had barricaded the surrounding roads since the commencement of the ‘Occupy Galle Face’ public protest. (NewsWire)
