PM orders IGP to restore security of Kaduwela magistrate

Prime Minister’s office has issued a statement regarding the withdrawal of security from the official residence of Kaduwela Magistrate Chanima Wijebandara.

It says that attention of the Prime Minister was drawn to the communication issued by the Judicial Services Organization and Lawyer’s for Justice Organization also notified the PM regarding the matter.

Following this, PM Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the IGP to reinstate the security detail at the Kaduwela magistrate’s official residence and to tighten security for all judges and magistrates in the country.

On 4th May, the Kaduwela Magistrate had rejected a request by police for an order to prevent protests from taking place near the Parliament on the 5th and 6th May.

On the same day, the Magistrate also ordered the release of 13 youth protestors who were arrested near the Parliament on personal bail. (NewsWire)
