Former President of Sri Lanka Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has warned of a military rule being imposed in the country under the current circumstances.

Her warning comes after unrest broke out yesterday prompting the angry public to torch vehicles and houses belonging to Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) politicos and those linked to the government.

The unrest occurred after SLPP supporters yesterday attacked the public who had been engaged in peaceful protests against the President and the government near the Temple Trees and at the Galle Face Green in Colombo over the past few weeks.

Commenting on the incident, the former President of Sri Lanka made an appeal to the public.

“I appeal to all our citizens who have carried on a Wonderful struggle for Justice and Democratic governance so PEACEFULLY, to be aware that saboteurs may be used to incite violence in order to pave the way for military rule.” she Tweeted.

Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga also called on the public to use their organizational skills to halt this danger. (NewsWire)
