USD 554 MN needed for fuel in June : Minister gives situ update

The Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera and Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe have held discussions on the Forex requirements for the month of June to import petroleum products.

Minister Wijesekera said the discussion with the Governor of the Central Bank took place this morning.

Revealing details of the discussion, he said it focused on the Forex requirements of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) for the month of June. 

He further said that the total requirement for June imports will be USD 554 million. 

USD 100 million will be facilitated through the existing Indian Credit Line, the Minister said. 

The Energy Minister added that a USD 500 million new Indian Credit Line facility is also being discussed at present. 

Sri Lanka is in talks with several countries to obtain petroleum products as it faces a severe shortage of fuel due to the prevalent economic crisis. (NewsWire)
