A senior Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP’s son has issued a clarification on the altercation that had occurred between him and a Police officer at the Bedigama Interchange on the Southern Expressway yesterday.
The man involved in the incident has been identified as the son of SJB MP Dilip Wedaarachchi.
Initially, it was reported that the MP’s son and a woman with him had used obscene language against the Policeman after being prevented from travelling on the expressway.
Two officers had stopped the MP’s son’s vehicle before it entered the expressway due to a refrigerator being carelessly loaded on the vehicle.
Video footage was shared on social media yesterday showing the MP’s son verbally abusing one Policeman who was on duty at the time.
The Policeman had thereafter filed a complaint with the Weeraketiya Police station on the incident.
However, MP Dilip Wedaarachchi’s son, Ravindu Wedaarachchi has posted a clarification on social media, claiming that the Police officer had attempted to assault him first.
Sharing a video on social media, he said that he had retaliated with words after the Policeman had manhandled him first.
Commenting on the incident, Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said an inquiry has been launched into the matter. (NewsWire)
