The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court has issued a warrant to arrest MP Johnston Fernando over the attack on protesters at the Galle Face Green in Colombo on May 9.
The court order comes after the former Minister had filed a Writ petition before the Court of Appeal today seeking an order to prevent his arrest.
MP Fernando and several Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) loyalists have been named as suspects in the case pertaining to the May 09 unrest.
The Attorney General had informed the Fort Magistrate’s Court that they will be named as suspects in the case filed on the attacks on anti-government protesters near the Temple Trees and at the Galle Face Green in Colombo.
A travel ban has already been imposed by the court against MP Johnston Fernando and 16 others over the incident.
Meanwhile, MP Sanath Nishantha who was remanded over his involvement in the Gall Face attack has been further remanded.
The SLPP MP has been further remanded till the 15th of June.
However, SLPP MP Milan Jayathileka who was also remanded earlier over the Galle Face attack has been released on bail. (NewsWire)
