Former Minister Johnston Fernando has filed a Writ petition before the Court of Appeal seeking an order to prevent his arrest.

Last week, MP Fernando and several Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) loyalists were named as suspects in the case pertaining to the May 09 unrest.

The Attorney General had informed the Fort Magistrate’s Court that they will be named as suspects in the case filed over the attacks on anti-government protesters near the Temple Trees and at the Galle Face Green in Colombo.

A travel ban has already been imposed by the court against MP Johnston Fernando and 16 others over the incident.

Several SLPP MPs and loyalists have already been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and have been remanded over their involvement in the attacks. (NewsWire)
