Parliamentarian Johnston Fernando surrendered to the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today.

He, however, left for his residence after Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage granted bail.

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP surrendered after the Court of Appeal had instructed him to surrender to the Fort Magistrate’s Court before 08 pm today.

The Court of Appeal had issued the directive after taking into consideration the Writ petition that was filed by Johnston Fernando seeking an order preventing his arrest.

The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court had issued a warrant to arrest the SLPP MP following his involvement in the attack on anti-government protesters in Colombo on 09 May.

The warrant was issued after the Attorney General had named Johnston Fernando as a suspect in the attack, alongside several other SLPP politicos and loyalists who were found to have been involved in the incident. (NewsWire)
