The Chairman of Litro Gas Lanka Vijitha Herath has tendered his resignation.

Vijitha Herath announced that he has stepped down from his post with effect from today.

On 22 April, Vijitha Herath was appointed as the Chairman of Litro Gas Lanka.

He replaced Theshara Jayasinghe who stepped down from the post, after citing corruption mafia related to the organization.

Vijitha Herath served as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Insurance prior to his appointment as Litro Gas Chairman.

Herath’s resignation comes at a time when there is a severe shortage of LP gas in Sri Lanka, with the company suspending the distribution of domestic cylinders from time to time.

The public is forced to stand in long queues for several hours to purchase a gas cylinder, while the price of gas has also seen a significant increase due to the shortage.

Litro Gas Lanka did not distribute gas cylinders today as well despite a ship with LP gas having arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday.

According to reports, the company is unable to find the necessary USD 2 million to release the ship. (NewsWire)
