A 31-year-old monk has been found dead after being struck by a trap gun in the Pansiyagama area last afternoon.

The Police said the monk was attached to the Nā Uyana Buddhist forest monastery in Kurunegala.

The monk’s body had been found near a river close to the monastery based on a tip-off received by the Police.

Investigations have revealed that the monk had left the monastery that morning to seek alms and had been struck in the head by the trap gun, which is usually used to frighten animals.

The monk had fallen close to the river and had succumbed to his injuries. The Police said the suspect who had set up the trap gun is yet to be identified.

The Pansiyagama Police has launched investigations to arrest the suspect. (NewsWire)
