The government says it has taken necessary measures to mitigate the current fuel and gas shortages in Sri Lanka.

Litro Gas Lanka announced that payment has been made to release the ship with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) that has docked in Colombo.

The primary gas supplier said that the unloading of gas will commence today.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy said a shipment of diesel is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka within the next two days.

The Ministry said that measures have also been taken to place an order for another shipment of petrol.

The shortage of gas and fuel has forced the public to stand in queues for several hours at fuel stations and gas distribution points across the country. (NewsWire)
