The Met Department has issued a severe weather advisory for 12 districts.
The department further said that the weather advisory will be in effect until 08.30 pm today.
Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in the Uva, Eastern, Central, and North-Central provinces and in the Vavuniya and Mullaitivu districts.
Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm may occur at some places in these areas, while there may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
The Met Department has requested the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity. (NewsWire)
