A youth has been arrested on charges of spreading false information via social media on the violence that unfolded on the 09th of May in Sri Lanka.
The Police said the suspect had shared false information via WhatsApp that was deemed to have caused fear and panic among the public.
The suspect was arrested in Colombo yesterday by officials from the Cyber Crimes Unit of the Police Department.
He has been identified as a 24-year-old resident of Kaduwela and is employed as an automotive painter.
The Police Cyber Crimes Unit is conducting further investigations. (NewsWire)
