Bankrupt Sri Lanka allows younger women to work abroad

The Cabinet has decided to amend the minimum age for Sri Lankan female migrant domestic workers to 21 years.

At present, Sri Lankan female domestic workers require a minimum age of 25 years to work in Saudi Arabia, 23 years in Middle Eastern Countries, and 21 years in other countries. 

Thereby, the Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment submitted a proposal to amend the minimum age of Sri Lankan female migrant domestic workers.

A Cabinet sub-committee was appointed under the Minister of Justice to look into the necessary amendments in this regard. 

Following this, the Cabinet sub-committee has recommended that the minimum age of Sri Lankan female migrant domestic workers be amended to 21 years.

The Cabinet of Ministers had also granted approval to the said amendment. (NewsWire)
