Sri Lanka’s inflation in May hits 45.3%

Sri Lanka’s Headline inflation Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y ) has increased to 45.3% in May 2022, the Department of Census and Statistics reported. 

The department said Y-o-Y Food inflation increased to 58% in May, while Y-o-Y Non-Food inflation increased to 34.2%.

Following are five key highlights of the month as reported by the Department of Census and Statistics:

  • NCPI in May 2022 increased to 208.7 from 190.3 in April 2022.
  • Year on Year inflation increased to 45.3% In May 2022 from 33.8% in April 2022.
  • Month on Month change contributed by 5.4% from food and 4.3% from non-food.
  • Core Inflation increased to 37.7% in May 2022 from 27.9% in April 2022.
  • The general price level has increased by 108.7% compared to the base year (2013). (NewsWire)
