The Akkairapattu Police have arrested two women who had expressed their desire to get married in Sri Lanka, according to the Sunday Times.

The suspects are a woman from India and a Sri Lankan woman, a mother of one, who had been in a relationship for two years via social media.

The Sri Lankan woman who had been invited to Tamil Nadu by the Indian woman had been unable to travel overseas due to being unable to obtain a passport on short notice due to overcrowding at the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

Thereby, on 20th June, the Indian woman had arrived in Sri Lanka and had travelled to Akkaraipattu and had stayed at the house of her Sri Lankan lover.

The father of the Sri Lankan woman had objected to the relationship and had filed a complaint with the Akkaraipattu Police, after which both women had been arrested and produced in court.

The Akkaraipattu Magistrate has ordered the Police to present the suspects to a psychiatrist and submit a report today, while the women have been sent to the Kalmunai Base Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. (NewsWire)
