Sri Lanka seeks credit facility for fuel from Qatar

Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera has held discussions with key officials from Qatar’s energy sector to address Sri Lanka’s energy crisis. 

In a Twitter message, Minister Wijesekera said he met with Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs and the President and CEO of Qatar Energy today. 

He further said that the discussion focused on the supply of Petroleum Products, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to Sri Lanka to overcome the Energy crisis. 

The Minister said the discussions were held with an aim to overcome Sri Lanka’s Energy crisis with the assistance of Qatar Energy and the Qatar Development Fund.

“Met with Deputy Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development. Discussed possible Credit Line facility for Petrolium and Gas supply. Was informed that funds has been allocated for medical supplies and will consider the request for a credit facility and support the IMF program” Minister tweeted.

Minister Kanchana Wijesekera flew for Qatar early this morning, accompanied by Minister of Environment Naseer Ahamed. (NewsWire)
