President to send special envoy to Saudi Arabia

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will be sending an special envoy to Saudi Arabia to discuss avenues for energy cooperation with the two countries.

Environment Minister Nazeer Ahamed will visit Saudi Arabia from July 02nd to 05th.

The details of the visit was revealed when the Charge d’ Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Abdulelah A.A.Orkobi, called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Prof) G.L. Peiris at the Foreign Ministry.

At the meeting, Foreign Minister Peiris briefed on the current economic situation including fuel shortage and its negative impact on all sectors in Sri Lanka.

Foreign Minister Peiris sought avenues for energy cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as an utmost urgent matter, and further to facilitate the visit of Minister of Environment of Sri Lankato Saudi Arabia Naseer Ahamed from 02 -05 July 2022 as Special Envoy of the President of Sri Lanka.

Charge d’ Affaires a.i. of Saudi Embassy Orkobi, emphasized the importance attached to the Sri Lanka – Saudi bilateral relationship and assured all possible support to Sri Lanka at this juncture. (NewsWire)
