The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says it is prepared to stabilize the country and help bring it out of the current crisis in a short period of time.

Addressing the media today, JVP leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that his party is ready to resolve the various shortages in the country in a short period of time.

Stating that the JVP does not intend to do it alone, the MP said he is confident that the citizens of the country and Sri Lankans overseas will extend their support to the party for this purpose.

He further said that neither he nor Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe can serve in the post of Prime Minister for a very long tenure.

“Within a short period, such as 06-months, we can stabilize the country by rectifying the primary causes of the economic crisis. Thereafter hold a general election and appoint a new government with the mandate of the public,” he said.

MP Dissanayake said only the newly appointed government will have the capability to resolve the key issues of the economic crisis.

“This crisis cannot be resolved by changing posts or individuals, and especially not through a government that has lost the trust of the people,” he added.

When inquired about Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s statement in Parliament on his willingness to step down to allow MP Dissanayake to implement his economic plans, the MP said he was prepared to take up the task.

He said, however, that the President and Prime Minister must resign if he were to take up the challenge and implement his measures. (NewsWire)
