WATCH : Special Statement from IGP

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickremaratne has issued a special statement with regard to anti-government protests being held in Sri Lanka at present. 

Addressing the media, the IGP said that the Sri Lanka Police respects peaceful public gatherings as per the Constitution of Sri Lanka. 

He further said that the Police have taken the utmost measures to protect the rights of the people and all Police personnel has been informed in this regard. 

The IGP said that it is the responsibility of the public to act responsibly without causing any hindrance to the rights of other people. 

“The public, including political and religious leaders, have been requested to refrain from damaging state and/or public property and causing disturbance or hindrance to the public when exercising their fundamental rights,” he added. (NewsWire)
