The Party Leaders’ meeting presided by the Speaker has reportedly decided that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa must tender his resignation.
According to reports, the Party Leaders who participated in the meeting have requested the President to step down.
The Speaker summoned a Party Leaders’ meeting this evening after the public stormed the President’s official residence and Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
Despite the public occupying the President’s official residence and Presidential Secretariat, the President’s whereabouts are unknown.
The public took to the streets in mass protests demanding the resignation of the President and Prime Minister over the current crisis in the country.
Prior to the Party Leaders’ meeting, the Prime Minister’s office said that the President has said that he will respect the decision taken at the Party Leaders’ meeting today.(NewsWire)
