The President’s Office in Colombo resumed operations today after it was taken over from anti-government protesters who had occupied the building since 09th July.

The public stormed and occupied the Presidential Secretariat following a public uprising calling for the resignation of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The state building had thereafter been occupied by anti-government protesters and was open to the public for viewing.

However, early on Friday, the Police jointly with the tri-forces had evicted the anti-government protesters during a special operation.

Several protesters, including journalists, had been attacked and injured in the incident, which occurred hours after Ranil Wickremesinghe was appointed as the 8th Executive President of Sri Lanka.

Following its take over by the state, the Presidential Secretariat resumed its functions today with its staff reporting to work.

According to video footage, the Presidential Secretariat has reopened under heavy security. (NewsWire)
