Opposition MP Dr. Harsha de Silva says the Prisons Commissioner has prevented him from meeting key “GotaGoHome’ activist Pathum Kerner for the last five days.

In a Twitter message, MP de Silva said the Prisons Commissioner has thereby violated his right as a Parliamentarian to check on the well-being of any prisoner in Sri Lanka.

“After much discussion with the staff there, I left the premises on the undertaking they would provide me in writing so-called court order preventing an MP from visiting him on the grounds of ID parade,” he said.

The SJB MP further said he had received a letter yesterday from Dr. Kerner copied to him and sent to President Ranil Wickremesinghe seeking an independent investigation of what happened on the day of the protest.

“Selective and arbitrary, arrests are not independent. Look at the case of Trade Union leader #JosephStalin. He has been put in for violating a May order against a protest where many other trade unionists linked to the government are with him; one has been given a plum job. This is not justice,” he added.

Social media activist Pathum Kerner was arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) on 28th July in connection to the public protest that was held near the Parliament on 13th July.

He was arrested in connection to the unruly incidents that had occurred at the entry road to the Parliament near the Polduwa Junction during the protest. (NewsWire)
