Several more suspects arrested over protests

An individual has been arrested on charges of engaging in an anti-government protest and for forcibly entering the President’s official residence during public protests. 

The Police said the man is accused of illegal assembly near the Bank of Ceylon Mawatha in Fort, damaging public property, and obstructing the duties of Police officers during the protest that was held on 28th May. 

He is also accused of forcibly entering the President’s official residence in Fort during the public protest that was staged on 09th July. 

The 32-year-old resident of Koswatta has been arrested after surrendering to the Police yesterday (08). 

Meanwhile, another individual has been arrested for forcibly entering the Prime Minister’s official residence, Temple Trees, in Colombo during public protests. 

The Police said the suspect has been arrested following investigations conducted by the Police into the protest and damage to property at the Temple Trees on 09th July. 

The suspect, a 53-year-old resident of Colombo 03, was arrested in the Aadimale Road in Bambalapitiya yesterday and handed over to the Colpetty Police. 

The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) is conducting further investigation into the incidents. (NewsWire)
