The newly appointed National Sports Council headed by former Sri Lanka skipper Arjuna Ranatunga has initiated an inquiry against Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) over the Asia Cup cricket tournament.

The Council is set to probe the reason for the cricket tournament which was scheduled to be hosted by Sri Lanka being moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Former World Cup-winning Sri Lanka skipper Arjuna Ranatunga said that an inquiry will be conducted on the matter and a report will be handed over to the Sports Minister.

Meanwhile, Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe also condemned the Sri Lanka Cricket for missing the opportunity to host the Asia Cup 2022.

He said the SLC should have found a way to host the cricket tournament as Sri Lanka had already hosted Australia and Pakistan.

Questioning why the SLC had failed to go through with hosting the tournament, the Sports Minister pointed out that the cricket series could have brought in much-needed money to help Sri Lanka’s struggling economy. (NewsWire)
