The daily power cut is likely to be extended from tomorrow (16), the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has announced.

PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said the power cut will be extended due to the breakdown in Unit 01 of the Norochcholai Power Plant.

The Power cut for today will remain at 1 hour & 20 minutes and will be extended from tomorrow as appropriate, he said.

The power cut will be extended due to a minor breakdown repair of the 1st coal power plant at Norochcholai.

The repair work will require approximately 14 to16 days to be completed, he added.

Janaka Ratnayake further said that the official announcement of the power cut will be released once approved by the Commission.

Earlier today confirming the breakdown, Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said technical staff at the power plant were working to identify the fault.

He further said that Unit 2 of the power plant is undergoing scheduled maintenance work, while Unit 3 will continue to operate.

Minister Wijesekera added that the West Coast and other Fuel Power Plants will be used to manage the supply. (NewsWire)
