Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa says Sri Lanka has a long way to go with regard to legislation pertaining to the right to free period products.
In a Twitter message, he pointed out that Scotland is to become the first country in the world to introduce a law to protect the right to free period products.
As per the newly introduced Period Products Act, when it comes into force, councils and education providers in Scotland will be legally required to ensure free sanitary products are available to anyone who needs them.
Commenting on the legislation, MP Premadasa said, “The Scottish Parliament agreed UNANIMOUSLY to this piece of legislation”.
He pointed out that in the meantime, the Sri Lankan Parliament is still jeering at the opposition for merely mentioning the word “PERIOD.”
