Mervyn Silva released, Next court date in November

Former Minister Mervyn Silva who was arrested earlier today has been released by the Colombo Additional Magistrate. 

Noting that bail was unnecessary, the Magistrate said that it was sufficient for the former minister to appear in court on the 16th of November.

Mervyn Silva was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today over the incident of forcibly entering the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC).

The former minister is accused of having stormed into the premises of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation in Colombo in 2007.

Mervyn Silva who was the Labour Minister at the time of the incident is reported to have stormed into the SLRC with his bodyguards and had allegedly assaulted the News Director. (NewsWire)
