SLPP’s request from President Ranil

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has requested President Ranil Wickremesinghe to facilitate the return of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to Sri Lanka. 

The former President who fled public protests calling for his resignation is currently in Bangkok, Thailand. 

The SLPP requested the President to facilitate Rajapaksa’s return during a meeting at the President’s Office yesterday, which was attended by SLPP National Organizer and former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa.

Stating that former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa should be allowed to return to the country safely, Basil Rajapaksa added that it is the most important request from the government, including from the President of the SLPP.

Former minister Basil Rajapaksa has also said that the SLPP will provide full support to the President to build the country by solving the current economic crisis.

Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, Sagara Kariyawasam, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Johnston Fernando, Pavitra Wanniarachchi, Namal Rajapaksa, and Sanjeeva Edirimanna represented the SLPP, while MP Vajira Abeywardena, Sagala Ratnayake, Ruwan Wijewardena, and Shamal Seneviratne represented the President’s party at the meeting.
