A teenager from a leading boys’ school in Colombo has been hospitalized after a young cobra was found inside his shoe yesterday.

According to reports, the 13-year-old boy from a suburb in Colombo, who travels in a school van, had hurriedly worn his shoe and had left for school at around 5.50 am.

A short distance on his way to school, the grade 08 student had felt something similar to a needle piercing his right leg from inside his shoe.

However, the student ignored the incident and had only checked his shoe after arriving at school half an hour later to find a young Cobra hidden in his shoe.

After being informed of the incident the school administration rushed him to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children in Colombo.

A medical examination had revealed that the boy had not been bitten by the snake, which was found to be 7 inches long but had instead only grazed his skin.

The Director of the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital Dr. G. Wijesuriya said that medical tests have confirmed that the child had not been bitten and there was no venom in his blood.

He said, however, that the child will be kept under observation for a period of 24 hours to monitor his health condition.

According to reports, the child is said to be in good health condition at present. (NewsWire)
