Malaysia job visa scam : Police launch inquiry

The Sri Lanka Police has launched an investigation into a scam involving the use of tourist visas to Malaysia for employment in the country.

The Police said that it has been found that Sri Lankans are being provided tourist visas to Malaysia on the promise of it being recognized as work visas upon arrival in the country.

However, it has been revealed that the process is a scam and a financial fraud being conducted by certain criminals. 

The Police stressed that tourist visas to any country cannot be and will not be recognized as work visas or permits in any country.

They warned that such scams are punishable under law with a prison term of not more than 5 years and a fine of not more than Rs. 200,000. 

Those with information on such visa scams have been requested to inform the Police via the hotlines 119, 118, or 1997. (NewsWire)
