China is ready to work with relevant countries and international financial institutions to continue to play a positive role in supporting Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring, Chinese Foreign Minister Zhao Lijian said on Friday (02).

He further said China was ready to support Sri Lanka’s response to current difficulties and efforts to ease its debt burden and realize sustainable development.

“China has paid close attention to the difficulties and challenges faced by Sri Lanka and we have provided help to Sri Lanka’s socio-economic development to the best of its capacity,” Zhao Lijian said.

The Chinese Foreign Minister further said that China supports relevant financial institutions in consulting with Sri Lanka for proper solutions.

“We are ready to work with relevant countries and international financial institutions to help Sri Lanka during this crisis,” he added.

Zhao Lijian made the statement in response to a question raised by a journalist on the calls by Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki for all countries that lent money to Sri Lanka, including China, to discuss the country’s debt restructuring. (NewsWire)
