A 14-year-old schoolboy who was trapped in a culvert in the Vahera area in Kurunegala died upon admission to the hospital.
The Police said the boy had fallen into the culvert while trying to avoid a vehicle passing on the road.
Upon seeing a school bag abandoned near the culvert which was overflowing with water due to heavy rain, the Police had been informed in this regard.
The child had been rescued from the culvert during a joint operation conducted by the Kurunegala Police and the Sri Lanka Army.
However, the child, who is a student of a school in Kurunegala, died upon admission to the hospital. (NewsWire)
