The Education Ministry hopes to introduce more practical English lessons from Grade 01 in schools commencing next year, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.
The Minister said the importance of the English language for online-based academic activities has been observed by the Education Ministry.
Stating that Mathematics and Science are being taught in Sinhala and Tamil from Grade 06 onwards, he said it has also been proposed to teach the subjects in the English language as well.
As the technical content of the subjects is mostly in the English language on online platforms it has become difficult to conduct academic lessons, Minister Premajayantha revealed.
The Education Minister said that the lack of English-speaking teachers in state schools has severely affected the academics of schoolchildren in rural areas. (NewsWire)
